Are you keeping your website secret?

Wednesday 14th December 2011

This week we are focusing on the power websites have to build your brand.  Consumers and companies are living their life online. 90% of purchases are made after online research. You need to make sure your website is a part of that process.

  • Is your company's online presence strong enough to change behaviour?
  • Does your site use consumer insights to build a connection with your target audience?
  • Is your website buried on page 36 of search rankings?
  • Is it safely hidden from view?
  • Isn't that like having an unlisted phone number for your business?

No one can guarantee that you will appear on page 1 of the Google search ranking. But your website should be built to be there and you should be working every day to make it happen.

How?

The basic steps to developing your on page search engine optimisation are below:-

  • Platform - is your website built to be seen by search engines? If your site is all Flash then you are going to have  a much harder time to be seen - plus it isn't iPad or iPhone visible.  Use a platform that works with the search engines, not against them.
  • Technical - There are a few technical aspects of your site behind the scenes that are important to manage - page titles, meta tags, Alt text behind images, etc. These things are important to the search engines so they should be important to you.
  • Content - Make it applicable.  Make it relevant.  Speak to the consumer about what they care about.
  • Freshness - Don't go stale like day old bread.  Keep your site updated with new information that will be interesting to consumers.

You have the ability to use your website to connect with consumers.  Is your website working for you?
